POST RELEASE SUPPORT

"Finding a more stable place to live has been a big improvement for me. Keeping in touch with people and being willing to talk openly to them is also important for me. Isolation has been a big challenge for me, living on my own, with a minimal amount of social contact ..... no one was ever too busy for a chat..... "

" For several months leading up to my leaving date, I attempted to get my passport updated. I got mixed and contradictory messages from the various people involved. I also requested a copy of my birth cert. I was assured I would receive it before leaving. I never got it.

Being able to prove ones identity is very important today. I needed to open a new bank account after leaving. However, support is lacking in other ways, such as the passport example. Supporting the people going back into society would be a way that they could demonstrate effective rehabilitation."
