MUSIC MINISTRY
Music Ministry, a group of amateur musicians visit prisons providing a space to enjoy the art of music. This provides an opportunity for everyone to bask in powerful harmonies and symphonies of instruments. It is the highlight of those who join the sessions and proves to be an encouragement for the rest of the week for many. Currently, our music team is based in one prison, however our dream is to have a music team based in every prison across Ireland.
Music is a therapy that helps people improve their mental health. Music helps people relax, explore their emotions, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, ease stress levels, and regulate mood.
At Release, our music ministry team brings hope and creativity into Irish prisons through weekly volunteer-led music sessions. Each visit, our team arrives with their own instruments and invites prisoners to join in singing, playing, and creating music together. These sessions offer a space for self-expression and creativity, and provide moments when participants can mentally and emotionally step outside their surroundings and reconnect with their own sense of individuality. For many, it can be a highlight of the week: a time of community, encouragement, and simple musical enjoyment that brightens the lives of all involved.
