19 July 2004 - Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act 2004
This is quite an extraordinary piece of legislation, allowing for parents to be involved in all aspects of their child's process through the system. It places strict timelines for the provision of Assessments and Individual Education Plans. Although this bill is a step in the right direction, it does not apply to people over the age of 18, and we have to wait for the Health Boards to write their new procedures to adhere to the provisions. This will take six months to one year.

Namhi will be providing a booklet which outlines parent's queries for their children with special educational needs.
